Documents for Germany
Germany is the most format-sensitive country we work with. The reason is structural: German law has the institution of sworn translators (beeidigte/vereidigte Übersetzer), and public authorities are used to seeing a translation bearing such a translator’s stamp. At the same time, for many everyday purposes — schools, employers, insurers — a notarized translation done in Ukraine is perfectly acceptable. The most expensive mistake is ordering a “standard” translation without asking your receiving office first.
How the process works
For documents issued in Ukraine, the usual chain is apostille on the original → translation → certification. The apostille is issued by the competent Ukrainian ministry: the Ministry of Education for diplomas, the Ministry of Justice for civil-registry certificates, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for police clearance certificates. The apostilled document is then translated into German, apostille stamp included.
Then comes the fork. If your institution requires a sworn translator (Standesamt, courts, often the Ausländerbehörde), the translation must be done by a translator on a German court register. If a certified translation is sufficient (universities, many Jobcenters, private organizations), we prepare a notarized translation in Kyiv — faster and cheaper.
How much cheaper? Substantially: translation in Ukraine costs roughly four times less than in Germany. One short written question to your institution — “will you accept a translation notarized in Ukraine, as a PDF or by post?” — can save a serious amount. Many institutions accept scans: we send the PDF the moment it’s ready, with the paper original following by post to Germany.
Recognition of Ukrainian degrees runs through a separate system: the anabin database and the ZAB office. We cover that process step by step in our guide to the apostille on a diploma for Germany.
The other direction: German documents for Ukraine
German documents — birth or marriage certificates, court decisions, powers of attorney, Handelsregister extracts — need an apostille issued by the German authorities (usually the Regierungspräsidium or a regional court) and a notarized Ukrainian translation to be used in Ukraine. We translate from scans, so no travel is needed; the finished package is delivered by Nova Poshta within Ukraine or as scans worldwide.
A typical example of this route is the power of attorney: how a client in Germany sold her apartment in Ukraine without a single trip — in a dedicated case study.

Do German authorities accept notarized translations made in Ukraine?
It depends on the receiving office. Some institutions (certain Jobcenters, schools, hospitals) accept a notarized translation from Ukraine with an apostille, but registry offices (Standesamt), courts, and many immigration authorities require a translation by a sworn translator registered with a German court. The rule: ask your specific office which format it needs before ordering — we can help you phrase the question.
Where do I get an apostille on Ukrainian documents for Germany?
In Ukraine, at the competent ministry: the Ministry of Education for diplomas and school certificates, the Ministry of Justice for civil-status certificates (birth, marriage), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for police clearance certificates. The apostille goes on the original before translation.
Does a birth certificate need an apostille for a German Standesamt?
For marriage registration, a child's birth, and other civil-status procedures the Standesamt usually requires an apostille on the Ukrainian original plus a sworn translation. The exact checklist comes from the Standesamt itself and differs between federal states.
Can you arrange a sworn German translation?
Yes — we arrange translations by sworn translators for Germany, and we also prepare notarized translations with an apostille in Ukraine when the receiving institution accepts that format. Send a scan and the name of the institution and we will recommend the right option.
