How much does technical translation cost?

Technical translation costs from UAH 170 per translation page of 1,800 characters with spaces; the rate depends on the language — English, for example, is UAH 300. Standard notes and repetitions are not billed at the full rate, and orders of 5 pages or more get a discount. We quote within 15 minutes.

Technical translation: everything you need to know

Technical translation requires not only knowledge of the language but also deep technical knowledge. All our specialists have more than 10 years of experience, some of them at large industrial enterprises. We are constantly working on translations of various standards and have a large database of ready-made translations of such standards as DBN, DSTU, GOST, SNiP, ASTM, ASME, DIN and ISO. The documents we most often translate:

  • equipment operating manuals, technical specifications, equipment accompanying materials, product passports, assembly diagrams, drawings with explanatory notes, equipment installation instructions, user manuals;
  • product catalogs, quality certificates, technological documentation of the production process, technical passports, specifications, design, construction and estimate documentation;
  • scientific articles, patent documentation, standards.

Our specialists have developed glossaries of technical translations, which contain terms from many industries, including highly specialized ones. In our work, we use translation memories, which allows us to speed up the translation process and ensures a high level of consistency of style and terminology.

How we work on a technical translation

  1. File analysis and honest pricing. We count the volume and the matches: standard notes, title blocks, and recurring fragments are not billed at the full rate. You don’t pay for repetitions — substantial savings on large documentation packages.
  2. A project glossary. We extract the terminology from your documents, verify every term against industry technical dictionaries and standards (ISO, DIN, DSTU), and approve it with your engineers before translation starts.
  3. A team in Trados. Translators share one translation memory and glossary: the same part carries the same name in the drawing, the manual, and the catalog. Contested terms are agreed with the editor and with you.
  4. Editor + Xbench. A specialist editor proofreads every document, while automated Xbench checks verify numbers, units, and the consistency of identical strings across the whole corpus.
  5. DTP. Documents come back in their source format: drawings in AutoCAD, catalogs and manuals in InDesign or Word — structure, graphics, and the position of every label one-to-one with the original.
  6. Delivery and continuity. Large projects ship in tranches, and translation memory makes every follow-up order faster and cheaper.

What this looks like on real projects: 5,000+ AutoCAD drawings into Kazakh for a plant construction, 600+ equipment drawings for a sugar plant, a furniture catalog in three languages for EU export.

Cost of technical translation

In Ukraine, the cost of translation is calculated by the number of characters, not physical pages. One “translation” page is 1,800 characters with spaces, and the cost of translation depends on the language. After receiving the order, our specialists convert the documents into a format that allows us to accurately determine the volume of text. Then, the number of “translation” pages is multiplied by the set rate. We have special rates for standard documents, and regular customers can count on discounts.

Frequently asked questions

How is the quality of technical translation ensured?

We pay great attention to the quality of translations, understanding that this is the basis of your company's success. Our team has an entire quality control department, which includes experienced editors and proofreaders. Each translation must be proofread by an editor. If necessary and upon separate request, the translation can be additionally checked by a native speaker.

Who performs technical translations in your company?

We engage expert translators in the respective fields: technical texts are translated by specialists with significant technical experience. Only professionals with at least 10 years of experience in the field of translation work in our team. We conduct a thorough selection of candidates, where only the chosen ones make it to our shortlist. To join our team, translators pass a complex test translation. As a result of such selection, only approximately 5% of candidates get the opportunity to work with us.

How fast is the translation done?

Our standard pace involves the translation of 8–10 translation pages in one day. The order fulfillment process includes several stages: first, the manager accepts the order, contacts the appropriate specialized translator, and distributes the work. After the translation is completed, the document is edited and proofread. If necessary, certification of the translation or typesetting is also performed. For urgent orders, we optimize our process to ensure fast turnaround — even within hours. The cost of an urgent translation is usually one and a half times higher than a standard translation.

Is the order handled by one person?

A team of employees is responsible for the quality of execution. The main role is played by the translator. After that, the result is checked and amended (if necessary) by the editor and proofreader.

What are the main features of technical translation?

Technical translation requires the translator to have in-depth knowledge in the technical field, an understanding of specific terminology and the ability to work with technical documentation.

Why is it important to have an experienced technical translator?

An experienced translator in the technical field understands the specifics and peculiarities of technical terminology, has the necessary skills to understand complex concepts and ensures high quality translation.

What stages does the document layout process include?

The document layout process usually includes the following stages: analysis of customer requirements, layout planning, selection of typography and color scheme, placement of text and images, and final proofreading before publication.
