Documents for Italy

from UAH 900Quote in 15 minutesUpdated:

Italy loves form: the official translation here is the traduzione giurata (a translation sworn before a court), diplomas follow a separate consular procedure called dichiarazione di valore, and without an apostille a Ukrainian document won’t even be considered. The good news: the whole chain can be assembled remotely if you know the order of steps.

How it works in practice

For Ukrainian documents going to Italian institutions the standard chain is: apostille in Ukraine → translation → certification in the format your institution requires.

  • Comune, questura, court (marriage, transcription of certificates, permesso di soggiorno, court matters) — require a sworn Italian translation (traduzione giurata).
  • Universities and diploma recognition — a separate route via the dichiarazione di valore: the apostilled diploma with translation goes to the Italian consulate, which issues the statement of value.
  • Private recipients (employers, landlords, insurers) — often accept a notarized translation from Ukraine at a substantially lower price. Confirm your institution’s requirement before ordering — we’ll help you phrase the question.

Many institutions accept scans as a first step: we send the PDF the moment it’s ready, with the paper set following by post.

The most frequent documents on this route: birth and marriage certificates for transcription, police clearance, diplomas, powers of attorney for property and inheritance.

Documents the other way: from Italy to Ukraine

Italian documents — estratti di nascita, court decisions, corporate extracts — used in Ukraine require an apostille affixed by the Italian authorities (prefettura or procura, depending on the document) plus a notarized Ukrainian translation. We produce the translation in Kyiv from scans; no travel needed.

If you’re in Italy and need a power of attorney for use in Ukraine, the proven route is “template from a Ukrainian notary → certification at an Italian notary → apostille → back-translation” — walked through on a real example in our cross-border PoA case.

Frequently asked questions

Do Ukrainian documents need an apostille for Italy?

Yes. Italy accepts Ukrainian official documents only with an apostille, affixed in Ukraine before translation: the Ministry of Education for education documents, the Ministry of Justice for civil-status certificates, the MFA for police clearance.

What is a traduzione giurata and who produces it?

A sworn translation certified by the translator's oath before an Italian court. Comuni, questure, and courts require exactly this format. We arrange it remotely — no need to find a translator in Italy.

What is a dichiarazione di valore and when is it needed?

A consular statement of a diploma's "value" — required by Italian universities and qualification-recognition procedures. It's issued on the basis of an apostilled diploma with translation; we prepare the package for exactly that procedure.

Can everything be arranged remotely from Italy?

Yes: you send scans, we handle the apostille and translation in Ukraine, arrange the sworn translation, and ship the finished documents as scans and by post to Italy.
