The United Kingdom has no sworn translators: everything turns on a properly formatted certified translation — a translation with a statement of accuracy, date, and the provider’s credentials. The statement’s form matters: the Home Office, banks, and registries check the translator’s certification, not a notary’s seal.
How it works in practice
- Home Office (visas, residence, citizenship) — a full English translation with a certification statement. Notarization isn’t mandatory, though it doesn’t hurt if the document will serve other institutions too.
- Banks, employers, universities — accept certified translations; a PDF is often enough.
- Marriage, courts, property (including HM Land Registry) — this is where the apostille on the Ukrainian original appears, along with stricter formatting requirements; we have hands-on experience with HMLR submissions.
The most frequent documents: birth and marriage certificates, bank statements, diplomas, police clearance, powers of attorney.
Documents the other way: from the UK to Ukraine
UK documents used in Ukraine require an apostille from the FCDO Legalisation Office plus a notarized Ukrainian translation. We translate in Kyiv from scans; the package ships by Nova Poshta.
