Trados Studio: translation memory that works for you

Trados Studio is the world’s most widely used computer-assisted translation (CAT) system, developed by RWS. For professional agencies it is as fundamental as CAD software is for an engineer: thousands of translation teams worldwide work in Trados daily. What Trados Studio does

Trados does not translate instead of a human. It does something else — it keeps track of everything a person cannot hold in their head across hundreds of pages:

• Translation memory (TM). Every translated sentence is stored in a database. When a similar sentence appears again — tomorrow or five years from now — the system shows the translator the earlier version and the match percentage (fuzzy match). The same sentence is never translated two different ways.
• Term base (glossary). Your product names, titles, and established wording are approved once — then highlighted in every segment. The translator literally sees which term to use.
• Repetition analysis. Before a project starts, Trados counts new words, repetitions, and TM matches. That report is the basis of an honest quote.
• Completeness and QA checks. The system won’t let a sentence be skipped, verifies numbers and units — and we run a final pass in ApSIC Xbench on top.

Why it matters to you

Consistent terminology — for years. For long-term clients, translation memory becomes a compounding asset: a 2022 contract and its 2026 amendment speak the same language even if different translators worked on them. That is how we ran a three-year project of 5,000+ drawings without the terminology drifting from the first sheet to the last.

You don’t pay for repetitions. Boilerplate contract clauses, recurring drawing notes, standard manual sections — the system finds them automatically, and we don’t bill them as new translation. On large document packages the budget difference is substantial.

1. Trados analysis report — we run the files through analysis: how many new words, how many repetitions and matches against your memory; the quote is built on those numbers, not guesswork.
2. Format preparation — Word, Excel, XML, InDesign, or AutoCAD exports are split into segments with the layout preserved, so the translated file reassembles one-to-one.
3. Translation in a shared TM — linguists see each other’s confirmed segments in real time, so the term in the first file matches the term in the last.
4. Trados verification + editor — built-in checks for numbers, tags, and terminology, followed by an end-to-end editorial pass.
5. The memory stays yours — after delivery the project TM is up to date, and your next order starts with match discounts already applied.
