Adobe InDesign: translation delivered print-ready

Adobe InDesign is the professional layout application behind most printed and presentation materials: catalogs, brochures, manuals, reports, packaging. When such a document needs translating, translation alone is not enough — text in another language has another length, and the design “floats.” That is why at MovaPro translation and layout run as one process: you hand over a finished design file — and get the same finished design back, in another language.

What we do in InDesign

• Extract text without losing structure. From the INDD/IDML package, text flows into a CAT system (Trados or memoQ) with all styles and positions preserved — no manual copy-paste.
• Translate through the full professional cycle. Translation memory, glossary, editor, Xbench checks — same as every project of ours.
• Lay the translation back in. The DTP specialist fits the text into the design: adjusts line lengths, hyphenation, tables, image captions; makes sure the fonts support the target language.
• Prepare for print. You receive a package a print shop will accept: verified fonts, linked images, correct spacing.

Why it matters to you

The design looks native to the new language. A classic example from our practice — the appliance catalog and the furniture catalog: hundreds of pages of product descriptions translated and laid out to “send to print” condition.

Critical in regulated industries. In medical translation layout is not cosmetics: a medicine’s packaging or an IFU must match the original design down to the position of the warnings. We lay out medical packaging to print-ready condition.

One vendor instead of two. No need to hire a translator and a designer separately and shuttle corrections between them: one team owns both text and design — faster, cheaper, and nothing lost in the relay.

How we work

1. Design assessment — we review the InDesign package (or PDF), count text volume and layout complexity; a quote within 15 minutes.
2. Translation — specialist linguists with 15–20+ years of experience work in a CAT system with your glossary.
3. Layout — the DTP specialist rebuilds the design in the target language.
4. Double-checking — the editor proofreads the text inside the finished layout: layout errors are only visible in the layout.
5. Delivery — a print-ready INDD/IDML package plus a PDF for approval.
